GONE FOREVER

         
I saw them walking towards me
with a sad smile on their faces
I knew something was amiss
But didn't know what it was
My grandma had a sad smile
Plastered on her face
And gave me a blank look
As I looked up at the two men
Standing at my door in the night
In uniforms which looked quite familiar
Told me I had to go with them
I relented at first
But they told my parents needed me
Mom had promised to come tonight
But they never turned up
The cops took me to a hospital
Which smelled of antiseptics
And  I walked with them
They stepped in front of a huge door
Which had  ICU  written on it
In big red letters
They opened the door
What I saw there made my eyes
Fill with tears
My parents were lying on two beds
They looked at me and smiled
I didn't know what to do
Mom softly whispered in my ear
Told me to take care of myself
I cried in her arms
Dad told me ,always be strong
Saying this both of them
looked at each other and smiled
Said their goodbyes
And closed their eyes forever
The five year old me stood there
Unable to understand what happened
I called them again and again
MOM!
DAD!
They didn't reply nor did they
open theirs eyes
What I didn't know was that
They would never open their eyes again
They would never look at me and smile
They would never talk again
They were gone forever
